February 6, 2010:
CHICKEN BARBECUE:
The
Massena Volunteer Fire Department will host
a chicken barbecue on Saturday February 6,
2010 at their station on Andrews Street in
the village. Serving will start at
4:00 p.m. and the dinner will include
chicken, roll, macaroni salad, and beans for
$8.00
NEWS
February 2, 2010: MVA:
Massena Fire responded
with Engine 30 shortly after 5 p.m. to the
intersection of Route 37 and East Orvis
Street for a reporter one vehicle accident
with a car wrapped around a pole.
The D.O.T. was called
shortly thereafter to close a portion of the
highway. One fatality was reported and
one person was transported by Massena Rescue
to the hospital. See full story below.

Massena Teen Dies When Car Hits Pole

January 18, 2010: MVA:
Massena
Fire Responded to a two car motor vehicle
accident at approximately 6:30 p.m. in the
vicinity of Talcott Street. The
operator of one of the vehicles allegedly
ran his vehicle into the second and was
subsequently charged with Felony DWI, Felony
AUO, uninsured vehicle, and several other
counts. He was remanded to the St.
Lawrence County Correctional Facility on
$10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
January 14, 2010: AUTOMATIC
ALARM: Massena Fire responded
with Engine 28 shortly after 5:00 p.m. for a
reported alarm activation at the Massena
Housing Authority. The alarm was found
to be caused by a plastic bag which had
caught fire while the occupants were
cooking.
January 12, 2010: CHIMNEY FIRE
- Massena Fire responded shortly
after 5:00 p.m. for a reported chimney fire
in a garage on the Larue Road in the town.
Engine 28 and Engine-Tanker 4 responded.
Upon arrival the fire was determined to have
been caused by a plugged pipe and was
already out. A dry chemical
extinguisher was used in order to ensure it
was extinguished.
January 4, 2009: MULTIPLE
CALLS - Massena Fire responded with
Engine 30 shortly after 5:00 p.m. for a
car-pedestrian accident near 81 Liberty
Avenue in the village. Shortly after
returning to the station Engine 30 was again
dispatched to the vicinity of Seaway Tire
for a second car-pedestrian accident.
January 1, 2010: HAPPY NEW
YEAR! Massena Fire rang in
2010 by responding with Engine 28 to two
automatic alarm activations at the St.
Lawrence Centre Mall in Massena. The
first alarm came within an hour of entering
the new year and was found to be due to a
pizza oven left on. The second alarm
coming several hours later was determined to
be unfounded.
December 28, 2009:
FATAL STRUCTURE FIRE - At
approximately 8:30 p.m. Massena Fire was
dispatched to a reported working structure
fire at the Hillside Motel & Campground on
the Smith Road near the mall. Engine
28, Engine-Tanker 4, Tower 3, and Rescue 77
all responded. First arriving units
reported flames showing and an initial
attack was begun and the fire quickly
brought under control limiting damage to a
small portion of the motel.
Unfortunately one occupant was unable to
make it out of the structure and perished. Massena Fire
was supported at the scene by Massena
Rescue, Massena based State Police, Helena
Fire, Louisville Fire, and County Car 10.
Fire and police units were on scene for
approximately three hours.
